I just love this skirt!

I did not originally intend to make this fabric into this skirt. My sister found this fabric a few year ago while she was visiting our grandmother in CO and used it to make a pillow. I looked for it here locally and asked them about it, etc, but could not turn any up. I did found a small amount at one point, but I can't remember if I got any. It may have been a full year later before I happened to spot a very full bolt of it on the shelves. I was very happy as I took it to the cutting counter and then used a 40% coupon for the purchase. Vaguely I had visions of a pleated skirt, because I think that would be really cute, too. When I decided to make it up this spring, I knew that I hated making pleats, so I went with Simplicity 4188.

(You can't see the details very well, but you can see my adorable shoes) :-)

With minutes to spare before a big event, I tacked the last few feet of ric rac on the bottom and dashed out the door. I took it off that evening and hung it up and there it remained for months while life swirled around it and me.

When September came and I was rounding up items for the county fair, I decided that I needed to finish this correctly and enter it. So, I removed the tacked on pieces of ric rac, looked up directions for correctly connecting ric rac on the internet and finished the trim on the bottom. I also added a single layer of ric rac at the waistband.

(This is more the actual colors and you can see the three layers or ric rac as well as the bias hemline)

I took home a blue ribbon and an award of merit ribbon.

I've been thinking that I should pair this skirt with my tall boots and a dark shirt this fall, but as yet it has been so cold that I haven't done it yet.

Be back on Wednesday! ~am
